Topic: In some parts of the world it is increasingly popular to research the history of one’s own family. Why do people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?
Tracing back one individual’s family origin is emerging rapidly as a popular trend in some regions of the world. There could be many explanations for this recent phenomenon, for which I believe it is to bring about essential changes in people’s attitude towards life.
Firstly, an investigation into the history of one family could be simply a result of insatiable curiosity. Some people may wish to get an insight into the origin of their family and unravel any unclear questions in order to reach a perfect depiction of their ancestors. What’s more, the meticulous work of discovery could help them identify or establish the long-lost blood relations if any to some of the famous individuals in the past. A clear example of this would be the incidence relating to a common Korean citizen allegedly to be a descendant of a prince of the Vietnamese’s Ly Dynasty who fled to Korea around the 11th century. Having said that, some people may refer to this search only to find relatives whom they have lost when they immigrated to another country.
From a personal outlook, I would consider this trend a work for a better improvement of life. For one thing, people who have accomplished this task may enjoy the reunion with their family members whom they pre-assumingly are not aware of such existence. Furthermore, this could be a golden opportunity to understand deeper about the family’s ancestor and to cherish them more. This is very beneficial in terms of education as children can both acquire a lot of knowledge though the search and ethically mature.
In conclusion, there are numerous reasons why people adopt such research into their family’s history. Whatever the reasons they are, I believe it is for a good cause and therefore should be encouraged.
